Happy New Year! As a non-fiction writer, I've been intrigued by the number of "Meetup" groups that have popped up in the tristate area under the name: "Shut Up and Write!" Most of these groups are in NYC but lately I've noticed a few in Montclair and Morristown. So I've decided to put some feelers out to see if the idea will work in my community. (You don't have to live in Maplewood or South Orange to join us.) The "Shut Up and Write!" Meetups are not a critique group or a writing class. They ar …
Do you like to write? If yes, do you find it difficult to make time to sit down and write? This is a meetup group for people to get together and, well, write. The group (or whoever RSVPs) meets once a week. For 1-2 hours (or however long you can stay) we sit down and write quietly. Once a month we'll get together afterwards to talk about our writing or just socialize. I'm not interested in critiquing, lectures, and the like.
This group is for anyone who's ever suffered from writer's block or anxiety about their creativity. Sense Writing offers an innovative approach to the writing process. Taught internationally and in NYC, Sense Writing integrates the principles of Somatic Education with the art of writing in order to ease your nervous system so that you can find new sources of inspiration. It strengthens the relationship between memory and Art, and provides you with the tools to apply this relationship to any crea …
We toil in obscurity, trying to write the next great historical novel. Or maybe just the *next* historical novel. Few who have not tried it understand the woes of the historical writer: you do not know your world as well as a writer of contemporary stories, and yet you are not as free to invent it as a fantasy or sci-fi writer would be. Still, there is something uniquely satisfying in transporting readers to a different time, or using real events and places as a backdrop for a story that gives t …

The Stratford Scribes is a group of Fairfield County writers serious about the creation and publication of their craft. The group meets in Stratford, Ct. and owes a philosophical debt to Roberto Calas for both the tone and format of the meetup. We are a group of writers committed to pushing each other to achieve the writing life (and audience) to which we aspire.
Bring us your fiction, your poetry, your fledgling manuscripts yearning to be read. ;) We get together every 2 weeks in my home in South Hackensack, have some wine and water, and share our thoughts on the selections members submitted after the previous meeting. Bergen County Poets & Fictionaires welcomes serious writers, published or unpublished, who are open to constructive critique from a diverse group of other serious, open writers. We share our joy in writing and reading, along with a few la …

We are passionate writers looking to meet other passionate writers. Our group loves to have fun and our atmosphere is warm, welcoming, playful - at times even silly. At the same time, when we get down to it, we offer sincere feedback, trying to improve each other's work. We believe that to give good feedback we have to tell the writer what worked well first, what moved us, what inspired us, what made us want to punch something or someone. Then, we talk about what can be improved. The environment …

The goal of this meetup group is make good short films. Filmmaking is not an easy task and requires people who are dedicated to the art form and willing to work hard to improve in their craft. With that said, you can only learn so much about filmmaking from reading books (which is helpful in its own right), or going to film school (very expensive/time intensive)... but the best way is improve as a filmmaker and actor is to get involved in the whole process numerous times (Director Robert Rodrigu …

Many thanks to Investor Llew for his years of dedicated service to the novice/intermediate investor community, having founded this meetup! I have personally observed Llew work tirelessly to promote financial astuteness and make it accessible to all. I feel comfortable saying that his investor education program has been one of the most comprehensive and targeted programs I've ever seen. Having gotten to know Llew over the past couple of years, I can also say unequivocally that he has proudly …
